DUPAGE COUNTY – 25,000 MORE JOBS A YEAR FROM NOW UNDER PANKAU

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JANUARY 27, 2010

ITASCA, IL – State Senator Carole Pankau concludes, upon review of the 2009 DuPage County unemployment statics, that implementation of her “Buy DuPage” economic development program will create upwards of 25,000 new jobs in DuPage County alone.

The 2009 DuPage County unemployment figures show that there were 45,173 unemployed workers at the end of 2009, as opposed to 33,578 unemployed workers at the beginning of the year.

“With each resident committing to spending $2 more per day in DuPage, our “Buy DuPage” economic development program can create 25,000 jobs, by pumping $728 million dollars into the DuPage economy. This is a 5% growth in the county’s GDP,” said Pankau. “In these economic times, we need creative and unique ways to organically grow our local economy, we can not rely on the state or federal government to come in and bail us out; our county can, and should, aspire to grow jobs organically.”

Pankau’s “Buy DuPage” program is a program that encourages DuPage county residents to take a more pro-active approach to helping organically grow the DuPage economy by spending $2 more per day in DuPage county, as opposed to other counties. Pankau’s plan does not require increased spending by families, rather the program challenges families and DuPage residents to buy everyday items, from coffee, to milk, to newspapers, in DuPage County.

Pankau...Endorsed for County Board Chairman

January, 24, 2010

Bob Schillerstrom's venture into the GOP Gubernatorial ring (although aborted late last week) after three terms as chairman of the DuPage County Board caught a lot of interest. Four current Republican office holders want the job - County Board Member Debra Olson of Wheaton, State. Sen. Dan Cronin of Elmhurst, Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso, and State Sen. Carole Pankau of Itasca- ad each packs notable credentials.

We believe Pankau - a former DuPage County Board member with experience in Springfield - is the party's best bet going up against unopposed Democratic challenger Carole Cheney of Aruroa in November.

As a District 4 County Board member for the past seven years, Olson has a great track record watching residents' dimes and pennies, whether as a member of the Public Works Committee or helping to cut down on the county's health costs by routing prescriptions through Access DuPage, the county's public private partnership to help low-income residents obtain health care. And she has done it the past few years, despite what Pankau has claimed, without additional committee stipends, which have been eliminated.

Regardless, we believe it takes a person of Pankau's depth of experience to be able to lead as the chief operating officer of the County Board, supervising the implementation of the boards policies and programs.

Grasso has a refreshing, down-to-earth, realistic approach to solving budget problems, as he - like many other mayors - has had to deal with the declining revenue operating revenues. But regardless of his work with Suburban Mayors and Managers, we believe he lacks the broader experience to take on the the direction of a county more populous than some states.

Based in Elmhurst, Cronin obviously is aware of what goes on in all parts of the DuPage County as a state senator. He says consolidation of some county departments can aid efficiency, and points to reducing the county's operating costs by trimming the county's work force through attrition. He also suggests hiring a county administrator, which is intriguing, but seems to fly in the face of cutting county costs. Administration is part of what we elect - and pay - a county board chairman to do.

We have no doubt that Pankau, strong and straightforward, would be able to hold her own in leading county board meetings, preparing a budget and making committee assignments, as well as the other duties of county board chair.

Knowing that DuPage County, affluent relative to many other counties, doesn't qualify for many stimulus programs, Pankau says firmly that "DuPage County needs to grow its own economy."

She suggest expanding the county's popular online Job Board to all government entities within the county to give a broader idea of the jobs throughout the area. She likes the idea of a county job fair, where 118 major companies in the county can seek the best and brightest...many of whom forced to the unemployment lines by the economy.

And, an idea to quaint and simple "Buy DuPage," where residents would be encouraged to bump their daily spending in the county by a mere $2, could bring in additional millions in sales taxes each year.

That makes a lot of sense. And we believe supporting Carole Pankau as the GOP's nominee for DuPage COunty Board chair does as well.

OLSON MAKES OVER $300 AN HOUR AS PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN

ITASCA, IL – County Board Member, and candidate for DuPage County Board Chairman Debra Olson serves as the Chairman of the DuPage County Public Works committee. According to the DuPage County website, from January through November 2009 (a total of 11 months), Olson’s committee met for a total of 9 hours and 51 minutes.

In addition to her County Board salary, Olson receives a $3,000 stipend to serve as chairman of the Public Works Committee. (A cursory examination of other committees indicates that many of the County Board committees meet for approximately the same amount of time.)

“There are people in our County struggling to put food on the table and Deb is being paid $300 an hour, and obviously spends so little time scrutinizing and analyzing the multi-million dollar contracts that fly through her committee, this strikes me as being fiscally irresponsible,” said State Senator Carole Pankau, who along with State Senator Dan Cronin and Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso face Olson in the February 2nd Republican primary. “I call on the County Board to eliminate these stipends this year. In any economy, spending $54,000 a year on ‘stipends’ for paid County Board Members is tough to stomach, but in this economy, it is atrocious”

PANKAU FOCUSES ON ORGANIC ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TO SPUR DUPAGE JOB GROWTH

January 12, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ITASCA – State Senator Carole Pankau (R-Itasca) is once again reiterating the importance of instituting a countywide program to spur organic job growth. Over the last four months Pankau has been touting her three pronged approach to improve the DuPage economy.

The three prongs are:

- Open the DuPage County Online job board to all units of local Government

- Host an annual DuPage County job fair, where the 118 major corporations in DuPage County can work with the County government to bring in the best and brightest residents of the County

- Develop and implement a “Buy Local – Buy DuPage” program to create a mechanism for sustained and organic economic growth throughout DuPage County.

“If every resident of our county were to spend just $2 more per day in DuPage County, we would see a natural growth of 5%, or $728 Million dollars,” Pankau stated.
